When I turned six, Nintendo released their Game Boy Advance SP console followed shortly by their remakes of the first Pokémon games – LeafGreen & FireRed. Pa gave my brother and I one each. He got FireRed, and I got LeafGreen.

Needless to say I was obsessed with these magical little CReaTuReS, and especially the ‘Grass types’. What’s not to love about a sentient Rafflesia-inspired critter or humanoid sunflowers?
Playtime was limited to the weekends however. I remember many a Saturday morning huddled under the covers as I tried to squeeze in an hour of gameplay before being dragged off to our weekly tuition classes.

Back then, I don’t think I thought more of these virtual pets save for how best to get them trained to the next level. Looking at them now though, I wonder if that’s when I started to see the CReaTuRe-sque in the BoTaNiCaL.

IN THE TALL GRASS distills this nostalgia into six different bouquet offerings. Inspired by our favourite Pokémon moves, each arrangement here is coloured by a playful reminiscence – of weekends spent mesmerised in a make-believe world of sentient vines and talking blossoms.
I’d like to think I revisit this world now every time I work with flowers.

This post actually comes a few weeks after it was initially scheduled to be published – from when we first released this collection before Valentine’s. February and March were a firestorm of events and deliveries and we’re super stoked you guys took so wonderfully to our new designs ♥
We’re coming up to our next seasonal release soon so stay tuned for all that’s to come this Mother’s Day 2025.
A teaser: it has everything to do with the TiDeS.
